Utilizing HRSC Subsurface Imaging Technologies for a More Accurate CSM
The MIHPT, OIHPT, and GWS-HPT technologies utilized in conjunction with accurate discrete soil and ground water sampling traditional methods provides information that the project manager did not have available in previous years. Source(s) can be confirmed or identified, volatile and napl plumes can be delineated in both horizontal and vertical extents, and lithology indicators and hydraulic properties can be obtained in real time. Two main challenges exist: 1) to utilize historic traditional sampling for clues only, since they can be misleading or diluted 2)to ensure strategic soil and groundwater confirmation sampling to vertically match exactly the HRSC log data. Additional challenges exist for characterizing PFAS sites; with the GWS/Profiler technology, coupled with pilot tests, an efficient investigative phase can be completed. Case studies will highlight challenges can be overcome with a well thought out Triad approach, utilizing previous traditional data and HRSC subsurface imaging, discrete confirmation samples, and 3D modeling/visualizations.
