Mr. Geissler has been an environmental engineer for 12+ years specializing in soil and groundwater remediation, and vapor mitigation system design. He has managed the design, construction, and operations of dozens of soil, groundwater, and vapor remediation projects for industrial and commercial clients. Technologies he has employed include SVE, air sparging, ISCO, surfactant, horizontal well remediation, and both passive and active vapor mitigation techniques. Mr. Geissler has a BS in chemical engineering from Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO.
Assessment of Petroleum Remediation in Fractured Bedrock Using Large Diameter Treatment Columns (LDTCs)
Fractured bedrock presents a difficult medium for effective remediation of soil and groundwater regardless of the chemical of concern. Terracon has implemented an innovative technology in the form of LDTCs. LDTCs are injection points installed with diameters ranging from 18-inches to as large as 60-inches. The oversized boring diameter is designed to facilitate strategic source mass removal and also provide an additional medium for short to long term injection of a selected remedial media. The oversized boring allows for increased surface area contact with preferential pathways within the lithology. Terracon will present the results from a recent pilot test and discuss the successes and challenges of using this technology on a historical petroleum spill.
